As new settlers flowed into the North Carolina frontier, friction with the natives was due to occur. During the French and Indian Wars from 1754 to 1763, all males between the ages of sixteen and sixty were required to serve in the North Carolina Militia. A battle ferocious battle occurred in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains near the town of Statesville.
